The Financial Diaries

Studies by MFO

The Financial Diaries are a powerful research methodology for understanding the behavior of low-income people.

Initially developed to provide insights to promote financial inclusion, Microfinance Opportunities (MFO) has adapted the methodology to gather information relevant to other development sectors, including clean energy (Energy Diaries) and ethical supply-chain management (Garment Worker Diaries). The goal of all Diaries studies is to inform the development or adaptation of policies, products, services, and processes with the unique perspective gained from the rich trove of data the studies produce.
